Discussion on adding baseball as a spring sport was had at the Syracuse Board of Education meeting on August 18, 2025 including a report from a meeting with a potential school to coop the sport. A vote is expected at the next regularly scheduled meeting on September 15, 2025. The vote will be in support of or against adding baseball. If baseball is approved, the start date will be determined by the administration.
Syracuse was host to a Delegation from Romania on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025. The delegation of three women and two men along with an interpreter toured the Otoe County Museum of Memories, Syracuse Public Library, City Hall, Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca Elementary School, the wastewater treatment plant, fire and rescue building, the sports complex and Williams Park/Aqua Center.
Budgets for 2025-2026 were approved at the Syracuse City Council meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025. The council approved a one-year proposal from Julie Bauman, CPA for 2025 audit services.
Hundreds of dollars was raised at the 4-H Specialty Food Auction held Friday, August 1, 2025 at the Otoe County Fair. Several 4-H’ers presented their baked goods. Emma Beede’s baked goods brought the highest bid at $360. Mark Easter was the auctioneer. Participants receive 50% of the proceeds while the other 50% goes to the council.
Lydia Van Meter was named the All-Around Showmanship Champion at the Round Robin Livestock contest at the Otoe County Fair.
