Biden’s border crisis

There is a crisis at our southern border, and President Biden is only making it worse. At the end of March, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced it was on track to surpass one million encounters with immigrants illegally crossing our borders over the last six months. CBP data show there were 164,973 migrant encounters at our southern border in February, up 7 percent from January and 63 percent from February of last year. These staggering numbers do not include the number of illegal migrants who eluded border agents.

60th Anniversary

Wayne and Paula Wohlers of Syracuse, formerly of the Avoca and Nehawka areas, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married at First Lutheran Church (North Branch) at Avoca on April 26, 1962.

Knake and Boitnott to leave a legacy on Syracuse FFA

Hard work pays off, and Syracuse FFA teacher Nicole Mowry knows two of her students are an example of this motto. Mowry said that Bailey Boitnott and Jenna Knake have both worked very hard in their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), FFA and in their community.

Event highlights positive impacts on organ donation

A crowd of about 30 individuals gathered Monday morning, April 4, to raise the Donate Life Flag at Syracuse Area Health in Syracuse. The flag was raised in honor of National Donate Life Month that recognizes the need for organ, tissue and eye donors, honors recipients and remembers donors.

Maxine Burnett and Francis Moul were married April 20, 1972 in Lincoln, NE. Their children are Jennifer Ann (deceased in 1985) and Jeff.
