Multiple arrests after pursuits in Omaha, Lincoln Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested multiple people after pursuits in Omaha and Lincoln. On Tuesday, April 19, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a trooper observed a Mercury Mariner driving recklessly on Park Avenue, near 30th Street in Omaha.
Seven Syracuse FBLA members qualified for the National Leadership Conference at the annual FBLA State Leadership Conference held in Kearney on April 11-13. Members placing in the top three automatically qualify for the National Leadership Conference to be held in Chicago June 29-July 2. Members can only compete in one event at Nationals allowing others to move into position to qualify. The event in which they will compete at nationals is indicated by NLC.
Members of the 2022-23 Syracuse Starlettes dance team have been announced. The team has eight girls in ninth through twelfth grade. Tryouts took place on March 18 with daily practices beginning March 14. Practices taught fundamentals like jumps, leaps and turns. Girls also learned a kickline and a dance.
After a local news outlet shared that a new Mexican restaurant designing plans were back on track for Syracuse, El Portal Mexican restaurant spokesman Tom Giffee provided clarifying remarks. Giffe said that the plans for El Portal to open a location in Syracuse were put on hold due to family matters and that they were now focusing on the construction of a new location in Waverly.
University of Nebraska at Kearney students took first place in seven events and claimed the overall excellence award for four-year colleges during the Nebraska Professional Business Leaders (PBL) State Leadership Conference.
Weather permitting, the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 77 at Saltillo Road will be closed overnight from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday, May 1 for the construction of the Lincoln South Beltway project, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT).
High school students enjoyed a day of art at the NCC Art Show and Activity on April 13. The students went to Logan View High School to set up the artwork, participate in a drawing activity about portraiture taught by Mark Gilbert, and look at the art from other schools in the conference.
Tyler Wellman was named Nebraska FBLA’s Businessperson of the Year at the Future Business Leader of America’s State Leadership Conference awards ceremony. Wellman is a 2011 graduate of Syracuse High School and a 2014 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has been actively involved with FBLA for many years.
The Otoe County Roads Department hosted a tire recycling drive on April 22 and 23. Ryan Neemann with the Roads Department said that the department receives a state grant to do the tire recycling event from every two to three years.
