Recognizing older Americans in May

Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). This year’s theme is “aging in place” as the aim is to focus on how older adults can plan to stay in their homes and live independently for as long as possible. OAM is also a time to acknowledge the contributions of older persons to our country, and in particular, veterans.

NDA announces 2022 Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute delegates

More than 200 high school juniors and seniors, sharing an interest in agriculture, will gather in Lincoln in July to develop leadership skills, explore career opportunities and learn more about the state’s number one industry. In its 51st year, the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI) is the longest-running program of its kind in the nation. Sponsored in part by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), NAYI will be held July 11-15, in Lincoln, on the University of Nebraska’s East Campus.

City of Syracuse, Syracuse Fire Department discussing new truck

Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department Interim Fire Chief Keith McWilliams discussed the status of the new fire truck purchase at the May 11 meeting of the Syracuse City Council. The Syracuse city council scheduled a meeting with the Rural Fire District to discuss the possibility of sharing in the cost of the new truck or possibly buying one of the department’s existing trucks.
