A 40-year fascination with glass continues for Anita Carmichael of Beaver Lake, whose artwork is featured at the Wildwood Historic Center Art Barn. Carmichael, who is originally from Texas, has been in health care for 30 years (she’s currently a mammography technician at CHI), and she takes pride in her studio that contains three kilns, five wet saws, and many pounds of glass.

Man arrested following weekend shooting in Peru One person has been arrested following an investigating into a shooting that occurred June 18 in Peru. Saturday evening, the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting incident that occurred in the 1200 block of 6th street in Peru.
Peru State College and its President, Dr. Michael Evans, granted degrees to 192 undergraduates on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the campus of the College. More than 2,500 people attended the ceremony in the Al Wheeler Activity Center which was followed by a reception on the campus quad.
The great outdoors offers an abundance of adventures for the entire family, and health benefits both physical and mental – less stress, exercise, sunshine, improved moods, fresh air are just a few of the rewards of spending time camping and getting away from external distractions.
With some crops being replanted in areas where there was hail damage, newly seeded crops are just coming up and susceptible to insect damage. As we move through the summer, older soybeans are also susceptible to insect pests. It is just important to scout fields periodically to monitor new infestations of pests. Also, Crop-Watch, https://cropwatch.unl.edu/ is a good resource for information on current crop conditions in Nebraska. In southeast Nebraska, we have been subject to isolated infestations of insect pests over the years. More recently the thistle caterpillar, which is the larval stage of the Painted Lady Butterfly. Many people were concerned about the mil-lions of butterflies that invaded us, but it is larval stage which come from the eggs that the butterflies lay that can cause defoliation of soybeans. There were some fields that required treatment in southeast Nebraska. Another pest that showed up was the garden webworm. These types of insects would cause more issues with newly replanted soybeans due to much less foliage. Generally soybeans in the vegetative stage require treatment when defoliation reaches 30%. Defoliation usually is not as much as we think it is, so good to have a reference.
