Unadilla Groundhog Day Parade

The 37th Groundhog Day Parade took place in Unadilla on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1. The parade attracted participants including Nebraska State Senator Robert Hallstrom and his wife LuRae; GermanFest royalty; U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts; classic car enthusiasts; and riders from NoWear BMX in Otoe. Unadilla Billie led off the parade atop the hood of a Ford Falcon, the official car of Groundhog Day in the Groundhog Capital of Nebraska.

Organizational Meeting — Syracuse School Board

The Syracuse Board of Education held an organizational meeting Monday, January 20, 2025 prior to the regularly scheduled Board meeting. The meeting commenced with newly elected board member Tyler Kreifels reading the Oath of Office. Barry Janssen was elected President; Brianne Wilhelm was elected Vice President; Jerry Werner was elected Treasurer; the superintendent of schools, currently Mr. David Kraus, was elected Secretary. Perry Law Firm will be legal counsel. All four local banks, Countryside Bank, FirstBank of Nebraska, Riverstone Bank and Western National Bank were designated as district depository banks. The Syracuse Journal Democrat and the Lincoln Journal Star were selected as the district’s newspapers of record.
