Governor Pete Ricketts held a Sept. 7 press conference to highlight the State’s plans to expand reliable, high-speed internet service across Nebraska. The Governor was joined by members of the “Connect Nebraska” working group, a team of leaders tasked with optimizing state and federal funds to expand broadband. Led by State Broadband Coordinator Patrick Redmond, the working group includes representatives of the Nebraska Public Service Commission, the Office of the Chief Information Officer, and the State Budget Office.

Nebraska’s fall wild turkey season, which runs through Jan. 31, 2023, is a great opportunity to get outdoors, either on a solo hunt or with family and friends. Fall 2022 permits may be purchased over the counter, are unlimited in quantity, and are valid statewide. Youth permits for hunters ages 15 and under are $8. Fall hunters can buy up to two turkey permits. Qualifying landowners also are eligible for a reduced-price landowner permit.
State Patrol investigates rural Wayne County shooting The Nebraska State Patrol continues investigating a shooting death that occurred Wednesday, Sept. 7, in rural Wayne County.
Paul Hammel, Nebraska Examiner A 50-year-old program that annually distributes hundreds of thousands of tree and shrub seedlings celebrated a milestone recently, planting a tree at the Nebraska State Capitol to represent that 100 million trees and shrubs have been put in the ground. The Conservation Tree Program, run by Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts since 1972, distributes the trees and shrubs for wind breaks, erosion control, wildlife habitat and other conservation purposes.
