Otoe County voters came to the polls and took part in early voting to give the county a 54.01 percent turnout for the 2022 midterm elections. Of the 5,863 total ballots cast, 4,805 voters took part in Election Day voting, while another 1,058 took advantage of early voting.

Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School has released its first quarter honor roll. Earning High Honors were Seniors: Tyler Bennett, Samuel Bennett, Gabriel Dilley, Caleb Dunster, Elliot Kuhr, Jackson Nordhues, Isaiah Reed, Jacob Schutz, Robert Shanks, Ayva Swift, Jase Voorhees, and Macy Wittler.
Julie Beach, representing Project Playground, appeared before the Syracuse City Council at its Nov 9 meeting. Beach talked about a proposal Project Playground received from Creative Sights showing what a new playground at Williams Park could look like.
The Syracuse Youth Soccer program recently wrapped up its 2022 seasons at the end of October. A total of eight teams and 96 youth participated in spring and fall seasons for Syracuse this year with four traveling teams playing in a Sarpy County League in south Omaha.
A collaboration between the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Transportation, Nebraska Crime Commission, and Office of the Chief Information Officer has been awarded a national honor to their effort to streamline crash reporting and data collection for law enforcement agencies across the state.
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has awarded stipends to 202 Husker undergraduates to participate in research with a faculty mentor this fall. Local students receiving stipends are Senior biological sciences major Renee Box of Nebraska City for “Seasonal Dynamics of Flight-Capable and Flightless Crickets and their Parasites in Western Nebraska: Coupling Coursework and Field Research at Cedar Point Biological Station to Advance Collaborative Research at UNL.” Senior mechanical engineering major Amber Tannehill of Bennet for “Designing a Hybrid Locomotion Robot for Lunar Exploration.” Nebraska’s Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) Program supports undergraduates to work with faculty mentors in research or creative activities.
