Though it might not inspire the masses quite like Black Friday, Valentine’s Day compels millions of people to find gifts for that special someone in their lives each February. In fact, the National Retail Federation’s Annual 2022 Valentine’s Day Spending Survey found that the average person expected to devote $175 to Valentine’s Day spending in 2022.

Rocket girls’ clashes with Yutan, Logan View

The Syracuse girls’ basketball team traveled to take on Yutan and hosted Logan View during action last week. Yutan 59, Syracuse 18 Syracuse traveled to Yutan on Thursday, Feb. 2, but didn’t take their A game with them. The 33 turnovers for the game limited the Rockets to only 19 total shots against a talented Cheiftan team. The ladies lost 18-59.

Rocket teams sweep D.C. West at Syracuse

After a long week on the road, the Rocket boys (9-8) and girls (8-10) played at home in front of an energized crowd on Tuesday, Jan. 31, looking to avenge losses against the DC West Falcons, both runners-up in the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament, from last week.

Syracuse Hall of Fame

The Syracuse S-Club Hall of Fame inductions took place at halftime of the boys’ varsity basketball game against Logan View on Feb. 4. This is be the 5th class inducted since the inaugural hall of fame class in 2018. This year’s class is represented by one coach and one athlete. Coach Leon Bose, a popular coach and teacher for 20 years at SDA and Jess Kirchhoff ‘98, a very successful multi-sport athlete and state champion both represent the best of SDA athletics and are all deserving of this special recognition.

UNL Rural Poll shows Nebraskans more pessimistic in 2022

Since its beginning 27 years ago, the poll has asked respondents about their current situation, as well as their outlook on the future.

Cordray, Dilley team up for speech medals

The Syracuse High School speech team duet of Nathanial Cordray and Leland Dilley have placed twice this season. Both juniors, they placed fourth at the Ashland Greenwood Invitational and fifth at the Conestoga Invitational.
