Rocket track to compete in Class C in 2023

The Syracuse boys and girls track teams will be competing in Class C this season and get to host the Class C-1 district on Thursday, May 11. Other teams in the C-1 district include Conestoga, Elmwood-Murdock, Freeman, Johnson County Central, Lincoln Lutheran, Louisville, Lourdes Central Catholic, Palmyra, and Weeping Water.

Game and Parks Commissioners approve waterfowl recommendations

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved changes to 2023-2024 waterfowl hunting seasons in Commission Orders at its March 14 meeting in Kearney. For the 2023-2024 seasons, the Zone 3 and Zone 4 duck seasons will open a week later than last year with Youth Hunt dates the weekend prior.

Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 27 to 31

The National Weather Service office in Omaha has announced that southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa will observe Severe Weather Awareness Week beginning Monday, March 27. Monday’s NWS messaging will focus on severe thunderstorms, while Tuesday’s messaging will be concerned with weather warnings.

Knights take runner up at state dance

In its fourth year of competitive dance and first year at the state tournament, Lourdes Central Catholic earned a runner up finish for Hip Hop in Class C2. Louisville won the championship.

American Legion marks 104th birthday

The Syracuse American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 hosted a breakfast on March 15, celebrating the 104th birthday of the American Legion. At the Syracuse Library from 9-11 a.m., doughnuts and coffee were served to about 30 people. Veterans from all Posts in Otoe County, that is Nebraska City, Palmyra, Syracuse and Talmage, were invited. Under the leadership of Syracuse Elementary School music teacher, Ashley Mayer, 60 kindergarteners saluted the flag, sang happy birthday to veterans and sang other songs.
