NORMA JEAN NISELY

Norma Jean Nisely age 95 of Syracuse, Nebraska was born on August 27, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lawrence Allen and Mabel Esther (Shoenberger) Gore. She passed away on March 21, 2023 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska. Norma was united in marriage to J.C. Nisely on May 2, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Nebraska. Together they had four children, Jay, Patrick, Robert and Scott. She belonged to the United Methodist Women and American Legion Post #100 Auxiliary in Syracuse, Nebraska. She is survived by her, sons Jay (Vicki), Patrick (Ellen), of Lincoln, NE, & Robert (Marlene) of Syracuse, NE, Grandchildren Jason (Audra), Brandon (Amber) & Justin (Andrea) Nisely and Sarah (Nate) Swinton, great grandchildren Jordan Nisely, Gavin Nisely, Aidan Nisely, Avonleah Nisely, Jayden Nisely, Miranda Nisely, Maddox Nisely, Cayleigh Swinton, Joshua Swinton, Maggie Swinton, and Scott Nisely, , daughter-in-law Geri Nisely, of Marshalltown, IA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, J.C. Nisely, infant son and son Scott, brothers, Lynn, Lawrence and Gerald Hunter. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home in Syracuse, NE with Pastor Gary Ganger officiating. Burial was at Park Hill Cemetery. Visitation was one hour before the funeral at the Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the family in care of Robert Nisely, 1213 N. 30th Road, Syracuse, NE 68446. SVFD receives grant from extrication equipment

The Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department recently received a grant that will aid in the purchase equipment extrication used at accident scenes. The department is in receipt of an $8,550 grant from the Farm Credit Services Working Here Fund for Rural Disaster Relief/Essential Services.

Solutions to Maternal Mortality

Those of us from rural Nebraska know there can be challenges when the closest urban center is hours away. When we need specialized medical care, this distance can be even more daunting. Medical care is essential for people in many stages of life, including expectant mothers. According to the Perinatal Data Center, many rural counties in our state have low access to obstetric, or childbirth-related, care.

Securing our southern border

Recently, Senator Fischer and I returned from an oversight visit of the southern border. We heard directly from Border Patrol personnel about the challenges they currently face and the lack of support they’ve received from the Biden administration. This disorder caused by the president’s inaction has made every state, including Nebraska, a border state.

Elementary and secondary education has earned a spotlight nationwide, especially after schools went online during the pandemic. The unique setting provided parents a firsthand look at what goes on inside classrooms.

Eagles track teams place fifth at Pioneer Indoor Meet The Johnson-Brock boys and girls track teams took part in the 2023 Pioneer Indoor Meet at Doane University on Wednesday, March 22. The boys team placed fifth overall with a team score of 49 points.
