Syracuse brought home high scores at the District Music Contest held in Auburn on April 21, 2023. Following are the scores for the band solos and small ensembles: Percussion ensemble – II; Abbie Hansen flute – I; Brenna Sayer trumpet – I; Jeremy Bohaty trumpet – I; Brass quartet – I; Snare duet – I; Noah McKenzie snare – I; and Jace Stinson snare – I.

FFA hosts year-end banquet

Syracuse FFA held their year-end banquet on Monday, April 17. The program included recognizing students receiving awards at district and state competitions as well as awarding FFA Degrees, installing 2023-2024 officers and a “Retirement of Jackets” ceremony.

Gigstad’s miniature poodle set for national, international agility opportunities

Local resident Tammie Gigstad and her accomplished canine companion, miniature poodle Maui Wowie, are getting set for national and possibly even international agility competitions with the Westminster Kennel Club’s 10th Annual Masters Agility Championship in Flushing, N.Y. and the American Kennel Club Agility World Championship Team tryouts coming up on their immediate schedule.

Syracuse school locks in food service contract

The Syracuse School Board voted unanimously to approve Taher as the school’s food service management company and approved a five-year contract as presented during its regular meeting on April 17. Rates for preschool remained the same at $100 per month for the 2023-2024 school year.

Lourdes musicians recognized at District Music competition

Student musicians from Lourdes Central Catholic took part in the District II music competition at Auburn High School on Friday, April 21. Following are the ratings the students received: HS Band—Superior Rating. HS Choir—Excellent Rating. Grace Baxa—Piano Solo—Superior Rating. Cora Krog—Piano Solo-- Superior Rating. Theresa Gygi—Flute Solo-- Superior Rating— named as Honorable Mention for Outstanding Musical Performance.
