Happy Thanksgiving, District 1!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to visit our close friends and family, eat a glorious amount of food, and remember the things we are thankful for in our lives. There is much to be thankful for in the United States, especially Southeast Nebraska.

Do you have special memories of Thanksgivings Gone By in you memory bank? One of mine isn’t a big turkey dinner or a great big gathering. It wasn’t a gathering with lots and lots of cousins, either.

DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION PLAN

UNL Community and Regional Planning students Nathan Al Hajri, Ryan Kendall, and Professor Zhenghong Tang hosted an Open House for Syracuse residents to review and comment on the Downtown Revitalization Plan that they have designed.

On Friday, Oct. 29

On Friday, Oct. 29, downtown businesses hosted the traditional Trail of Treats for school students. Students from each elementary class paraded in their Halloween costumes in 5th Street. Businesses up and down the street provided candies for the outdoor event.

Rockets repeat state in face of high expectations

As the Syracuse Rocket Volleyball team reloaded after a trip to state last season, expectations and goals were high with many returning starters. The team pushed through the first half of the season and won the Fairbury Tournament. It then prevailed through the Nebraska Capitol Conference regular season and tournament as champions. With one hiccup along the road against state contender Elmwood/Murdock, the Rockets went into districts the #5 seed in wildcard points and swept Mitchell in three sets in the district final to earn another trip to state. A repeat of last year, the Rockets ran into a buzzsaw against Columbus Lakeview which ended up third in the tournament. Lincoln Lutheran won the state tournament with Kearney Catholic finishing as the runner-up. Class C1 is known to be one of the deepest classes in the state.
