Mary (Gergen) Wellman, of Lincoln, passed away February 28, 2022. She was born in Nebraska City, NE on September 14, 1949, to Irwin and Rita (Volkmer) Gergen. Mary graduated from Syracuse Dunbar High School in 1967. After high school she attended St Mary’s College in Omaha and St Elizabeth in Lincoln, earning a degree as an Xray Technologist. During her working life she worked with several different clinics in Lincoln and Columbus.
Charles “Charlie” Duane Swanson passed away on Saturday February 26, 2022 in Laramie Wyoming. Charlie Swanson was born on April 22, 1933 in Syracuse Nebraska to Sterling and Viola (Lehn) Swanson. He was born and raised in the area of Syracuse Nebraska that is now named after his family, Swanson Drive, Charlie Circle, and Ardie Circle.
The Syracuse boys hosted Milford (19-5) on Friday in their last regular-season game in a 25-70 loss. Scoring for the Rockets were Cooper Carlson 12, Nolan Werner 4, Braden LaFollette 3, Robert Shanks 2, Logan Zoller 2, and Jase Voorhees 2. The Rockets shot 2 of 4 from the line. The Rockets had 19 turnovers.
