IR-2022-52, March 8, 2022 WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers they may be able to claim a deduction on their 2021 tax return for contributions to their Individual Retirement Arrangement (IRA) made through April 18, 2022. An IRA is a personal savings plan that lets employees and the self-employed set money aside for retirement and can have tax advantages.
In 1987, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the month of March as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month." The purpose of the proclamation was to educate and encourage Americans to provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) the encouragement and opportunities they need to lead productive lives and achieve their full potential. This month allows Nebraskans to celebrate the achievements made towards that goal. It is also an opportunity to remind communities of the need to ensure people who experience IDD have the same opportunities to live, work, and enjoy life as those who don't need additional supports in this area.

These updates are to help eligible families properly claim the credit when they prepare and file their 2021 tax return.
Otoe County Sheriff ’s Office deputies and Syracuse Rescue responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of County Roads B and 34 near Avoca on Wednesday, March 2. A Ford F250S pickup truck driven by Joshua P. Behmer of Avoca was northbound on CR 34 when it was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado owned by Vantage Agri Service Inc. of Avoca and driven by Loren L. Stubbendick of Syracuse. The Ford failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and also failed to yield the right of way to the Chevrolet. Both vehicles were totaled, according to the sheriff ’s report, and Syracuse Rescue transported both men with suspected minor injuries.

Nathan J. Kahler, 14 of Syracuse, passed away on March 6, 2022, at the Syracuse Hospital. He was born on November 6, 2007, to Nathaniel Kahler & Megan Christiansen in Lincoln. Nathan attended Syracuse Elementary School through 3rd grade, then he started attending the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired in Nebraska City where he was in the 8th grade.
