Peru State bowling hired DaMoude as head coach

The Peru State athletic department has announced the hiring of Dwyane R. Da Moude as their new head bowling coach for the upcoming fall 2022 season. Da Moude is currently at Sun Valley Lanes and Games Operator from 2011-to present.

The Park Hill Cemetery cannon Burk Farley Friday, July 5, 1907. Senator Elmer Jacob Burkett of Lincoln, Nebraska, submitted an application to the War Department for a piece of condemned Civil War weaponry to be used as decoration for the Park Hill Cemetery at Syracuse.

Water and Integrated Cropping Systems

Fusarium head blight (FHB), also called head scab, is a fungal disease that infects wheat during flowering, which typically occurs between mid-May to early June in this area. This year, early maturity varieties and earlier planted winter wheat fields started heading on May 15 and likely will be flowering by May 21. Over the past 15 years widespread FHB epidemics occurred in Nebraska in 2007, 2008, 2015, and 2019. Southeast Nebraska is particularly prone to FHB issues. In addition to yield loss as high as 50%, FHB reduces grain quality and the received price at the elevator due to damaged kernels or presence of a mycotoxin.

William H. Werner

William “Bill” H. Werner, 68 of Syracuse, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He was born on May 26, 1953, to Harold & Phyllis (Petersen) Werner in Syracuse. Bill attended Dist. 38 country school and graduated from Syracuse high school. After graduation he attended Milford Community College and worked for Gartner Construction. He later worked for many years on the receiving docks at Dillards.

PSC men’s basektball to host August offensive skills camp

Peru State men’s basketball head coach Bob Ludwig recently announced that the men’s basketball program will be hosting an Offensive Skills Camp Monday, August 1, through Wednesday, August 3. The camp will be for boys in the third grade through high school seniors. The camp will be from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., each day and walk in registration will be that Monday at 8:30 a.m.

Palmyra athletes compete at state meet

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media Drew Erhart, Kyla Davis and Kinsley Havranek represented the Palmyra track and field programs at the Class C NSAA State Track and Field Championships last week. Drew Erhart competed in the boys’ 100- and 200-meter races.
