Palmyra American Legion Nash-Jensen Post 195 marks 2022 Memorial Day

The Palmyra American Legion Nash-Jensen Post #195 celebrated their annual Memorial Day Service on May 30. The group started in Douglas Rosehill Cemetery at 9 a.m, then traveled to Palmyra Rosewood Cemetery at 10 a.m., and finished at Unadilla Cemetery at 11 a.m. Lunch was held at the Douglas United Methodist Church.

UNO commencement The University of Nebraska, Omaha, conferred degrees on 1,851 students this May, including 1,420 undergraduate degree recipients, 416 master’s degress recipients, and 15 doctoral degree recipients. Students who received academic honors are so indicated.

As we observe Memorial Day each year, it’s imperative to reflect upon the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have given their lives in service of our country. While some Americans see Memorial Day as a three-day weekend spent camping, barbecuing, and going outside, we all need to remember the importance of this holiday. Memorial Day is to honor and extend gratitude to the men and women who died serving our country.

College Track Update

Bella Hogue, 2020 Conestoga graduate and sophomore at Nebraska Wesleyan University, won the 100m dash and 200m dash at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio, on Saturday. She ran personal records in both events with 11.57 seconds in the 100 and 23.56 seconds in the 200. Hogue ran primarily distance events in high school before missing out on a senior season due to COVID. She spent her first year of college running for the University of Nebraska in Lincoln before transferring to Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Palmyra’s Waltke to play in Shrine Bowl game

Palmyra’s Andrew Waltke is listed as a tight end and defensive end for the South Team for the 2022 Shrine Football game, which will be played Saturday, June 4, at 6 p.m. on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

PSC to host baseball tryouts June 19

Peru State head baseball coach Wayne Albury has announced that the Peru State baseball team will be holding tryouts on Sunday, June 19, starting at 2 p.m., at the Centennial Complex Baseball Field on the College’s campus.
