Jerry Verne Jacobson

Jerry Verne Jacobson, 78, entered heaven on June 8, 2022. Jerry was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Edna and Verne Jacobson. Jerry, “Papa”, was a Nebraska farm boy raised in Dunbar, Julian, Union and Otoe, Nebraska graduating from Dunbar High School in 1961. He married Ruth Rogge in 1965. He then attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. There he earned his bachelor’s degree in both education and arts, graduating in 1967.

8U Tournament – Syracuse 1 White second place

Syracuse 1 White placed second out of 21 teams in the 2022 8U Tournament held in Elmwood/Murdock. Team member and coaches are: Front row: Paxton Rudolph, Charlie Boyer-Sears, Thomas Hauschild, Grady Wiebusch, Brooks Juilfs, Dean Frye and Weston Laug; middle row: Jase Swenson, Baker Seelhoff, Truman Reisdorff, Tarren Fletcher and Liam Armagost; third row: Coaches, Ty Armagost, Nate Laug, Andy Juilfs and Tim Seelhoff.

Syracuse American Legion Juniors and Seniors

The Syracuse American Legion Juniors and Seniors competed last week with the Seniors picking up a 5-2 win over Elmwood-Murdock/Nehawka and falling to Waterloo-Valley, 7-1. The Juniors fell to Palmyra-Bennett, 9-6; Elmwood-Murdock/Nehawka, 9-8; and Waterloo-Valley, 9-5.

Standing for Israel

Since 1948, Israel has been an important ally of the United States. Unfortunately, Israel has also endured a great deal of conflict with those who seek its destruction in the Middle East. Last weekend marked the 55th anniversary of Yom Yerushalayim, or Jersusalem Day, a celebration of the liberation of the city of Jerusalem from the forces of six of Israel’s aggressing neighbors during the Six Day War in 1967.

Wrong Number!

The story that used to make the rounds about small towns is that you could get a wrong phone number and not even know the person that answered – and still talk for an hour! Well, that isn’t just for small towns, I found out last week. It went like this: Mark had given me the numbers I would need to call the Nebraska Senators and members of Congress concerning my feelings on gun control.

Dilley, Zoller win Otoe Cornhole tourney

Gabe Dilley and Logan Zoller (aka “the young guns”) were doubles champions of the Second Annual Cornhole Tournament in Otoe Saturday, June 4. When the rain cleared, there were 24 teams in the tournament competing for the $500 first place prize. All together around 100 people attended to support the fundraiser.

Rocket Seniors swing at Ames Street Bash

The Syracuse American Legion Seniors baseball team competed in four games at the Ames Street Bash tournament at Omaha North on Friday and Saturday. Friday opponents were the Millard Sox and Omaha North.
