Dear Editor; I would like to thank Mary Stack for recognizing the work that went into planting the pots on Main Street. I was inspired by the VFW Auxiliary who has planted and tended to flowers on Main Street for many years.

Rocket baseball players react to Area Tourney title

Following Wednesday night’s excitement, several Rocket players and the Senior team’s Head Coach, Mark Bayliss, took time out to visit with the Journal- Democrat about the season, the Area Tournament and making it to the Class C State Tournament.

Brandt goes unbeaten at AAU Scholastic Duals

Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca wrestler Barret Brandt brought home an undefeated record from the 2022 AAU Scholastic Duals held June 17-22 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Brandt, wrestling at 152 pounds and representing the Nebraska Beach Bums, went 12-0 with six pins. He described the matches as very competitive with four of his matches won by just a couple of points. As a team, the Beach Bums had a 7-5 dual record and placed 7th in their pool of 16 teams. They wrestled teams from Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Missouri, Montana and Ohio.

GermanFest seeks candidates for Lil’ Miss and Meister

If your first, second or third grader loves to meet people, dress up and ride in parades, then they would be a great Lil’ Miss or Lil’ Meister candidate. Whether they have a lot of German blood or just a little (some is not required), Syracuse area youth are invited to participate in the GermanFest Lil’ Miss and Lil’ Meister Pageant on August 27, 2022, at 9 a.m. at the Fair Center on the Otoe County Fairgrounds. Following the pageant, the King and Queen and the Burgermeister will be announced. All participants are invited to ride on the float in the 2022 GermanFest parade which starts at 10:45 a.m.

Fighting for economic recovery

As the American people continue to suffer under President Biden’s broken economy, disconcerting data in the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) showed June as having the weakest overall job growth in the last 14 months. The data also revealed the workforce participation rate is decreasing at a time when employers need workers most.

PSC Football Player Named to AFCA Good Works Team

On Wednesday, July 20, Peru State football player Garrison Dodge (Oakland) was named as a nominee for the Allstate’s 31st AFCA Good Works Team. This year there were 114 student-athletes who were named to the Good Works Team according to the press release.
