Paul Hammel, Nebraska Examiner Civil rights leader Malcolm X survived the first cut to be inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame on Friday along with educator/author Louise Pound and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer/director Howard Hanson. The seven-member State Hall of Fame Committee pared the list of eight nominees to the three finalists after a brief discussion on Friday.

We’re successfully growing Nebraska and creating jobs here in the Good Life. Nebraska had the nation’s lowest average unemployment rate in 2020 and 2021, and we do again so far in 2022. In fact, we currently have the lowest unemployment rate in state history at 1.9%. As of Sunday, August 14th, the State’s job website (NEworks.nebraska.gov) listed 51,835 available openings.

Coach Neeman leads 17-athlete roster for S-D-A cross country

Rocket football features 12-member senior class for 2022

A total of 12 seniors are out for S-D-A football this season and Purdham said it’s great to see that doubledigit number as opposed to the four and five member classes of recent years.

Panther football has solid nucleus back for 2022

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media Palmyra High School’s football team will feature what Head Coach Tyler Maas describes as a deep nucleus of talent after the Panthers posted a 6-2 season a year ago. Drew Erhart will serve as the Panthers’ quarterback for the third straight season.

McMann set as lone player for Palmyra Golf

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media Kailyn McMann is a senior and lone member of the Palmyra girls’ golf team, pictured with Palmyra Coach Zachary Wemhoff. McMann has been on the squad the last two seasons and will be looking to make a push to qualify for the state golf tournament in her third and final season.

Panther CC seeks more success in 2022

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media The Palmyra High School cross country program, under the guidance of fifth-year Head Coach Sadie Conn will be looking to add success after a great 2021 campaign. A year ago, the Panther girls’ qualified for state for the second straight year and qualified three individual runners in Lydia Lang, Ava Palm and Emily Frey.

Stubbendick, Mueller to represent S-D-A golf

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media A pair of Rocket athletes will represent Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca on the links this fall during the girls’ golf campaign. Coach Sallie Agena said a team score will not be possible, so the goals for the season will be on an individual basis with the players supporting each other’s efforts.
