Rocket VB claims home invite championship

The Syracuse Rocket volleyball team hosted their four-team invitational on Monday, October 4th. Syracuse took on the Ralston Rams (8-14) in the first game. Junior setter Rylee Seelhoff started the game off with an ace serve and the tone was set. With junior Kadyn Sisco swinging with a vengeance, senior Katelyn Smith also saw success hitting a slide shot. And when the opposing side was looking for the hitters, Seelhoff snuck in some timely setter dumps for kills.

Rocket MS team splits with Malcolm

The Syracuse Dunbar-Avoca middle school football teams traveled to Malcolm and fell in the A game. In the B game, the Rockets picked up a win, 6-0, with the lone score being a touchdown run by Jake Janssen.

Rocket volleyball battles E-M, Palmyra

Lynn Wilhelm The Syracuse Rocket volleyball team hosted Elmwood/ Murdock (14-9) and Palmyra (16-3) in a triangular on Tuesday, September 27. In the first match against the E/M Knights, the Rockets looked comfortable and confident throughout their two-set win, 25-14 and 25-12.

Straub’s jet ski adventure took 101 days, but memories will last a lifetime

How long does it take to climb Mount Everest? According to an article published on the web by CNN, it takes about two months. Mike Straub, an Omaha resident and graduate of Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School, took on his version of the Everest by tackling the grand water traveling adventure known as America’s Great Loop on a 2022 Sea Doo Fish Pro Trophy jet ski.

Ernest Weyeneth

Ernest (Ernie) Weyeneth (75) of Lincoln passed away on September 30, 2022. He was born on April 20, 1947, in Red Willow County where his Family were Homesteaders. His Parents were Leonard (Scoop) and Leila (Jolly) Weyeneth. He grew up in McCook, NE, graduating from McCook High School. He then attended and graduated from McCook Community College. Ernie continued his education at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. While at the University he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a hospital corpsman, assigned to the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. After returning from overseas service, he completed and earned a degree in Business Administration from UNL. Ernie spent his professional career, 49 years, in the investment business in Lincoln. He was Senior Vice President/Investments and Portfolio Manager at Stifel for the past 9 years. For 15 years he was the Branch Manager of the Shearson office in Lincoln. During this time he also served on the American Express Foundation Board of Directors. Ernie served as the President of the Richard P. Kimmel and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation. He held this position since the Foundations creation in 1988. In 2011, Ernie created the Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard Educational Foundation. The Foundation operates the Historic Kimmel Orchard in Nebraska City. Ernie belonged to several organizations including University of Nebraska Foundation Board of Trustees, Kregel Windmill Factory Museum Board of Directors, Agriculture Builders of Nebraska, Inc., Honorary initiate of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Optimist Club of Lincoln, American Legion of Danbury, and member of First-Plymouth Congregational Church. Over the years Ernie received numerous recognitions and awards for both his professional work and civic involvement. In 2019, he was honored to receive the Distinguished NEBRASKAlander Award from the NEBRASKAlander Foundation. A Weekend To Remember

Just when I had begun to think Nebraska wouldn’t/couldn’t win a football game - they did! Since my twelfth great grandchild had been baptized on Sunday morning and we spent the day celebrating – I was too tired to last out the Chiefs/Buc’s game. So I asked my computer who won this morning.

American Legion Post 100 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Commander Reed at 7:30 P.M. with 8 members present. Sgt. At Arms Gerry Davis offered the opening prayer followed by Commander Reed leading members in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble.
