Syracuse students test consistently above state averages in English and math according to recently released results. As a district, Syracuse students were sixty percent proficient in English Language Arts while the state average was forty-seven percent.
Merriam-Webster defines humanity as “compassionate, sympathetic, or generous behavior or disposition.” It is also defined as “the quality or condition of being human.” The first definition is what people want in a health care provider. We all want to be taken care of by a caregiver who is compassionate, kind, sympathetic, and generous with their time and knowledge. Health care providers spend countless hours taking care of patients. In order to do this, at times we ignore our own needs for rest, sleep, and food. We recite mantras of “first do no harm” and “the patient comes first.” Many of us strive for this vision of the “perfect” provider or to be a “health care hero” as we were called during the pandemic.
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can flex their artistic skills and outdoor stewardship by participating in the fourth annual Nebraska Fish Art Contest. This international art and writing competition – celebrating its 25th year in 2023 – gives youth the opportunity to highlight their talents while learning about fish, fishing and aquatic conservation.
Long gone are the days Extension Educators or Agents sit at their desk and wait for a phone call. Instead, Extension staff are meeting the clients where they are at whether that is in their field or at an event, program, meeting, or conference.
The holiday season is a great time to make any home a bit more merry and bright. Most individuals let their personalities show through their home decor, and holiday decorating is just as personal as decorating throughout the rest of the year. The main living areas of a home get the most decorating attention, with a Christmas tree or menorah taking a prominent position in the front window. Garlands, candles and other accoutrements also may dress up spaces. However, when it comes to holiday hosting, attention also should be given to the dining table which can benefit from a festive centerpiece.
Cookies and other baked treats are everywhere come the holiday season. It's not uncommon to give cookies as gifts or arrive at holiday gatherings with cakes and other decadent desserts.

Syracuse finished in a tie for fifth and scored 110 points at the 15-team Crete wrestling tournament last weekend. Omaha Bryan scored 196 points for first place. Also in the top five were Beatrice, Lincoln Northstar, Wilber-Clatonia and Fairbury.
Last week, I was feeling like a Grinch! Come to think about it, how do I know how a Grandma Grinch feels? At any rate, nothing seemed to be going right. Somewhere along the way the appointments to install my new TV, my new computer and my new printer were lost in space.
In Nebraska, the crops we grow, livestock we raise, goods we manufacture, and innovations we develop make an impact far beyond our borders. Nebraskans have long known that. Increasingly, the world does too. Growing Nebraska’s international presence has been a pillar of my administration. Since I took office, we’ve made trade missions to 11 different countries to forge new partnerships and increase investments in the Good Life. As a result of these missions, our state has become its own global brand.
