After starting off the season with back-to-back match ups against top rated teams on the road, the Rocket team will open their home schedule against Lincoln Lutheran this Friday.
Although the Rockets’ losses, the first of which came by just one point, have been disappointing, Coach Rick Nordhues said his Rockets aren’t looking back. They’re looking to get better.
“We talked after the game about getting better,” said Nordhues of the Rocket’s post game talk at Ashland. “We want to improve every week.
“We came out of the gate and played two very tough opponents.
“Lincoln Lutheran will not be as physical or as deep in terms of athletes on the field,” said Nordhues. “We want to be better fundamentally and clean up the mental part of the game.”
The Rockets definitely have some things they can build on from those first two weeks, as the team showed its competitive drive.
Against Ashland-Greenwood, the team had chances for difference making plays.
“We played hard and competed, but we didn't make plays when we had to,” said Nordhues. “They are a team that plays with a lot of confidence and they made plays when they needed to.
“Every time we got something good going on offense we would self destruct with a turnover, penalty, or just have a mental lapse and not do our jobs.”
