Allen selected as July Otoe County Veteran of the Month

Elisha Allen of Syracuse has been selected as the Otoe County Veteran of the Month. Otoe County Veteran Services Officer Chad Miller announced Allen’s selection at the Aug. 13 meeting of the Otoe County Board of Commissioners.

Allen served 20 years in the United States Air Force, including 24 months in Vietnam. He spent more than six years overseas and was stationed in 10 states during his career. He was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis and retired as a master sergeant.

In civilian life, Allen worked for Kastens Ford and Syracuse True Value/Do It Best. He also owned a radiator shop and a computer repair shop.

Allen lists his hobbies as camping and RV traveling, woodworking, fishing, riding a bike, and walking his dogs, Buddy and Bailey.

He has been married to Marilyn Masker-Allen since May 4, 1996. His children are the late Duane Allen, Teresa Balumi, and Darrin Allen, and his grandchildren are Chris, Jessica, and Eli Balumi.
