Nemaha County authorities filed rape and false imprisonment charges against 29-year-old Joshua W. Keadle that are not related to the disappearance of Peru State College student Tyler Thomas.

Staff at the Nemaha County Attorney Louie Ligouri’s office said the attorney was too busy this morning to talk with media about the charges.

The allegations cite an Oct. 31 incidents alleging that Keadle restrained, threatened and raped a victim.

Nemaha County Judge Curtis L. Maschman set bond for Keadle at 10 percent of $750,000 on the Oct. 31 charges.

Keadle appeared in the Nemaha County Court Tuesday morning regarding his arrest on allegations that he provided false information regarding the investigation into the disappearance of Thomas, 19.

The judge set a bond of 10 percent of $200,000 on that case, but noted that no formal charges have been filed.

Ligouri asked for a minimum bond of $900,000.

“It’s my understanding that Mr. Keadle’s residence is in South Carolina. I am not aware of any local family or contacts or associations here in southeast Nebraska. I don’t believe he is currently employed or attending school,” he said.

Defense attorney Diane L. Merwin suggested a bond provision of $10,000.

“Mr. Keadle had advised me he has a place in Lincoln he could stay. He has no intention of leaving the state,” she said.

“He wants to clean up this situation and finish up his last two years of college in Nebraska,” she said.

“There is no evidence that the safety of anyone is at risk,” she said.
