S-D-A scored seventh and 12th place finishes in crowded fields during the Falls City Sacred Heart Irish Invitational track meet at Tecumseh last week.
A total of 16 boys’ teams and 14 girls’ teams were represented at the meet.
Mound City, Mo., won the girls’ portion of the meet, while Elmwood-Murdock tied with Pawnee City atop the boys’ standings.
The Rocket boys’ team finished seventh with a total of 32 points, while the girls’ team was 12th with 24 points.

Boys’ Results
Jon Draeger was the top finisher for the Rocket boys’ team. He posted a first place throw in the shot, 45’5” and a second place throw in the discus, 136’2”.
Other Rocket medals were won by Shane Keslar, third, triple jump, 39’8.25”; Tyler Farley, third, pole vault, 9’6”; Mitch Kunz, sixth, 3200, 11:19.8; and 400 relay, sixth, 46.5.
In analyzing the results of the meet, Coach Rick Nordhues said the Irish Invite provided an opportunity for some of his younger tracksters to compete.
“It was a very competitive meet, and for them to place was great,” Nordhues said.
Girls’ Results
Kelsi Wichmann led the Rocket girls’ effort by winning the pole vault.
She cleared a height of 9’.
Also scoring for the Rockets were Kaitlyn Watermier, third, long jump, 15’2”; Jeni Bennett, fifth, 800, 2:40.7; 400 relay, fourth, 54.5; 1600 relay, sixth, 4:35; and Kendall Hallstrom, sixth, high jump, 4’8”.
Although the Rockets picked up several medals, Coach Chad Fuller said the day was a bit of a downer for his crew.
“It was a frustrating day,” Fuller said.
“We have several girls with injuries right now.
“I was proud of the girls that did compete.
“We are continuing to improve with every meet, but with all the injuries, it is tough to get any continuity in the relays,” Fuller said.
