The Rockets softball team made a valiant effort during the Class C-1 District Tournament, and made it all the way to the championship where the girls lost to Auburn, 11-1 on Friday, October 5, at Louisville.

Auburn (26-3) is ranked 3rd in Class C-1 and twice this season, the Rockets fought hard against the Bulldogs.
On September 1, the Rockets lost 7-3 to Auburn in tournament play.  S-D-A faced the Bulldogs again on September 20, where the Rockets came close of pulling off the upset.  Down 2-0 in the top of the seventh, Megan Reuter got a hit that scored Taylor Sherwin, but, unfortunately that’s all the closer the Rockets would get and Auburn won 2-1.  Sydney Wellsandt was in the circle that day and threw six innings and allowed four hits and one earned run to a good hitting Bulldog team.


During district action, the Rockets had the No.6 seed out of eight teams that competed.
In the first round of districts, the Rockets were down 7 to 1 against Freeman heading into the top half of the sixth inning.  S-D-A broke out the bats and scored seven runs in the next two innings to get the 8-7 victory.  Senior leadership stepped up in this contest.  Madison Mueller, went 2-for-3 with a single, triple, and three RBI.  Senior, Brynn Krieger smacked two doubles and scored twice, and, Megan Reuter nailed a single and two RBI.
Pitching: Alanya Nannen, five runs (four earned), four hits; Wellsandt, five innings, two runs (one earned), seven hits.

Ashland-Greenwood 22 S-D-A 6
The Rockets advanced to the second round where the Bluejays scored 10 runs in the tenth inning to hand the Rockets it’s first district loss.

S-D-A 18 Southern 10
Brynn Krieger was on fire at the plate, by hitting 4-for-5 with a HR and five RBI.
The Rockets pounded out 18 hits in this contest.
Reuter was 3-for-4 with four RBI and Nannen added two singles and five RBI.
Wellsandt got the win on the rubber.  Wellsandt threw six innings and allowed six earned runs.

S-D-A 5 Freeman 4
Wellsandt picked up the win for the Rockets by throwing seven innings and surrendering two earned runs.
Hitting: Nannen, three singles; Lauren Siefken, two doubles; Reuter, single and double.

S-D-A 14 Ashland-Greenwood
The Rockets would get pay back after a 22-6 loss to the Bluejay’s when Wellsandt went 3-for-5 with two singles, triple, and three RBI.
Hitting: Reuter, two singles, triple; Mueller, three singles; Krieger, single, double; Pester, double; Siefken, single.
RBI: Mueller, three; Reuter, two; Grace Damme, Pester, Brooke Carlson, Suzy Shanks, one each.
Wellsandt got the win by throwing seven innings, allowing seven earned runs, and striking out three.

Auburn 11 S-D-A 1
In the championship game, the Rockets lost to the Bulldogs and were the 2018 district runner-up.
In this contest, Nannen and Mueller, each had hits.  Nannen had a double and an RBI.  Grace Damme scored the only run for the Rockets.


The Rockets finished the season with a 10-16 record.  S-D-A won six of it’s last eight games on the year.
