On a wet and windy Thursday, the S-D-A golf team took to the course and came away with a third place finish at the Syracuse Country Club on August 23.

“The girls braved the rain for the majority of the first round so conditions were wet and chilly,” Coach Sallie Agena said.  “For the first event, I was very proud of the girls and their play. They showed much more confidence than they have in the past, and it showed.”

In varsity action, Shaylee Staack scored a team low, 98, earning the runner-up medal in the varsity division. “Shaylee spent quite a bit of time on the course this summer playing in the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour and it showed,” Agena said.  Lily Kastens won a score card playoff to earn the 9th place medal and a score of 109.  Kirsten Bischoff turned in a card of 111, and was close to a medal in her first varsity competition.

Agena said that several Varsity and JV players took lessons, attended camps, or spent time on their own golf game to work and improving their scores for this season.

Lincoln Lutheran placed first with a team score of 425.  S-D-A carded a 434.

JV results through one round: Dannielle Schutz, second place, 44; Jennifer Daharsh, third place, 46; Lorelei Bassinger, 54; Victoria Reed, 62.

The Rockets will compete on Monday, August 27, in a triangular, beginning at 4 pm at Syracuse.
