“We want to be competitive.”
That’s what Head Coach Rick Nordhues said of the S-D-A football team as the Rockets enter the 2018 season.
Last season, key injuries plagued the Rockets, but Nordhues says this year his team will get after it.  “It’s going to be an interesting year and the players have had great attitudes,” Nordhues said.
Coming off a two win season in 2017 and having a young roster, Nordhues said that his team is going to play a lot of JV games so that the players get used to playing with athletes at the varsity level.  “We are just going to take it one day at a time, and get better,” said Nordhues.
Burton Brandt will lead the Rockets at the quarterback position.  Last year, Brandt started as a freshman after senior quarterback Trevor Brinkman was injured.  Brandt led the Rockets to a 6-0 victory over Raymond Central.  “He looks really good,” Nordhues said.  “He is confident this year.  Last season when he had to step in, I think it was a little overwhelming for him, but he has learned a lot from it, both physically and emotionally.”
Jackson Zastera will be back on the line for the Rockets, and with his experience, Zastera is able to manage the offensive line.  Coach Nordhues said that Jackson is smart and is a leader.  he is telling everybody what they need to do and making calls at the line.  “He is a guy that is key for us on the offensive line,” Nordhues said.
S-D-A was scheduled to be at home on Friday, Aug. 24, to take on Centennial.
