With the score tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Jackson Zastera standing on third, Falls City threw a pitch that got passed the catcher, and Zastera slid safely into home for the first round 5-4 district win on Friday, July 6, at Auburn.

Falls City took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but Syracuse answered back in the bottom half of the second when Zastera reached on an error followed by a hard single by Jake Gorton.  Grant Stubbendeck stepped up and nailed a two RBI double to tie the game at two a piece.

In the third inning, Falls City scored two runs on two hits to take a two run lead.

Griffin Goering led off with a line drive double down left field line in the third inning.  Brandon Cavanaugh sacrificed Goering to third.  With one out, Andrew Thompson hit the ball in the infield and one run came across to score.

In the bottom of the seventh and Syracuse trailing 4-3, Grant Stubbendeck led off with a hard single up the middle and later stole second.  Goering blasted a double to left center field and Stubbendeck scored to tie the game, and the game was sent to extra innings.

In the bottom half of the eighth, Zastera reached on an error.  Gorton hit a solid single to right field.  With Zastera at third, Falls City threw a wild pitch and Zastera scored for the 5-4 victory.

Hitting: Stubbendeck, two singles, double; Goering, two doubles; Gorton, two singles.

RBI: Stubbendeck, two; Goering, one; Thompson, one.

Pitching: Max Brammier got the win in the final innings, by allowing no runs, on one hit, in two innings of work.  Goering started, and pitched five solid innings, and allowed four runs, on six hits, and struck out four.  Grant Carlson came in for middle relief and threw one inning and struck out three.
