Individual third place finishes were highlights for the Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca cross country team at the season-opening Beatrice Invite on Aug. 31.
Ellie Wilkinson was third for the Rocket girls’ team with a time of 21:39 and Luke Wilkinson led the boys’ side, also with a third place finish. His time was 18:16.
In the team scoring for the girls’ division, the Rockets did not record a team score while Beatrice won the meet and Tri County was second.
The Rocket boys’ team finished fifth in the field.
Beatrice won the meet and Waverly was second.
Other individual placers for the Rocket girls’ team were Emma Porter, 15th in 24:04; and Kayla Arnold, 19th in 24:54. There were 42 runners.
Other runners for the S-D-A boys’ team were Colton Rahe, 28th in 21:05; Grant Orchard, 21:28; Seth Dey, 21:34; Grant Stubbendeck, 23:11; and Spencer Bridgmon, 24:16.
There were 82 runners in the field.
Turning to the middle school results, Abby Ortiz won the meet for the S-D-A girls with a time of 8:36 and Mira Rahe was fifth in 9:17.
Broghan Behrends led the Rocket boys’ team with a 12th place time of 8:25. Other times were Kaleb Dunster, 9:18 and Creighton Orchard, 9:52.
