The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca boys’ golf team qualified one member, Cameron Clark, for play at the state tournament next week at Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln.

Clark shot an 88 to finish eighth in the tournament. The team shot 382 to finish fifth overall.

The teams from Gretna, Beatrice and Waverly shot 354, 264 and 369, respectively, and qualified for the state tournament.

“Cameron had one bad hole on the first nine, but refocused and remained determined in his quest to qualify for state,” said co-coach Sallie Agena.   “He is a three-time state qualifier, which is a great achievement!”

Clark is set to tee off at 10 a.m. from the 10th hole at Pioneers. He is paired with Jon McDonald of Omaha Skutt Catholic and Miles Hock of Mount Michael Benedictine in the first round of the tournament.

Individual scores for the rest of the Rockets team were as follows: Brendon Lyon, 94; Braxton Beach, 99; Grant Hallstrom, 101; and Pierce Agena, 109.

“We are very proud of the varsity team and their accomplishments this season,” said Agena. “We will miss the leadership of our seniors Cameron Clark and Braxton Beach and wish them the best as they head off to college.  We look forward to next year's season with the returning golfers.”
