Ivan Leroy “Swede” Bohlken, 81, of Talmage, died Dec. 30, 2009 at St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City. He was born Nov. 11, 1928 at rural Talmage to Jacob and Theresa (Wimberger) Bohlken. He married Hildegard Dopfner on Aug. 20, 1954 in Germany.

He is survived by three children, Angie Hansen and husband Andrew of Junction City, Ore., Mary Morris and husband Don of Dunbar, and Jim Bohlken and wife Dianne of Lincoln; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Robert Bohlken and wife Mary of Maryville, Mo., and Jack Bohlken and wife Barbara of Nebraska City; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded by his wife in 1992.

He taught at many rural Otoe County schools and served in the Air Force for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and traveling with old Air Force buddy Paul and his family. He was a member of American Legion Post #246 of Talmage.

Memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 3, 4-9 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 p.m. at Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home Chapel in Syracuse.
