   Rodney D. Kastens, 64, Seattle, formerly Syracuse, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. He was born Feb. 25, 1945, at Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised in
Syracuse by his adoptive parents, Oscar and Eleanor Kastens.
    Kastens served in the U.S. Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He received several medals for his service in the military, and also was a disabled veteran. Kastens enjoyed the military life, but had to leave for health reasons. He did a tour in Japan, which he really enjoyed.
    Kastens worked in the electronic field in the military, and before and after he was discharged. He  was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
    Surviving are a twin sister, Sandra, and her husband, Raymond, and their sons, Timothy and Les, all Panama City, Fla.; a maternal cousin, Phyllis Schreiner, her husband Lyle and their son, Mark, all Lincoln; and first cousin, Kay Bourlier and her daughter, Amy, Missouri. Kastens also had many friends in Seattle, including special friends Greg Walker and Ron Kleinmeaer, as well as from his home state.
    Kastens was preceded by his adopted parents; both sets of grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
    Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery near Seattle.
    Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and can be stated in his memory. Online it’s cancer.org.
