Marie V. Wellensiek, 93, of Cook, died at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh on Feb. 14, 2010. She was born Oct. 23, 1916 in Talmage to Adelbert and Alide Teten. She married Arnold F. Wellensiek on Jan. 17, 1950 at rural Talmage.
She is survived by daughter Karen Windhorst and husband Duane of Syracuse; sons Keith Wellensiek and wife Sharon and Duane Wellensiek, all of Cook; six grandchildren, Rachel Ideus and husband Shane, Ryan Windhorst, Kimberly Kriefels and husband Tyler, Andrew Wellensiek and wife Kim, Scott Wellensiek and friend Ulla, and Chris Wellensiek and wife Nicole; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Helen Hubka and husband Clarence of Cook; four nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, on Aug. 12, 2002.
Marie Wellensiek grew up in the Talmage and Cook areas. She was baptized Dec. 17, 1916 by Rev. A. Doering. She attended Mohawk Country School for eight years. She was confirmed June 8, 1930 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Walter Fleischmann. She graduated from Talmage High School in 1934 then attended Peru State College.
She enjoyed making quilts for her family. She worked at Farmers State Bank in Talmage and Farmers Bank in Nebraska City.
She was the church organist and member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (Osage), rural Cook. She taught Sunday school and was a 4-H leader.
Funeral service will be Friday, Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (Osage), rural Cook, with Rev. Curtis Rieger officiating.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Teten, Reinhold Teten, Sterling Teten, Tim Teten, Tom Teten and Doug Teten. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Organist will be Delores Holscher. There will be congregational singing.
Visitation is Wednesday, Feb. 17, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 18, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Friday the casket will be open one hour before services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
