Glenn T. Sturdy, 90, Palmyra, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Lincoln. He was born May 8, 1919, south of Cheney, son of Roy and Emma (Harrach) Sturdy.
Sturdy farmed near Cheney 76 years before he moved to an acreage near Palmyra. He was an election inspector for Grant Precinct 35 years. He served on the Cheney Cemetery Board 41 years and was a member at his death. He was a member of the Cheney United Methodist Church. He loved animals, especially horses. In 1984, he won the state and national corn shucking contest.
Surviving are his children and spouses: Karin and Harry Chaffin, Clifford Sturdy, Bill and Donna Sturdy, Bruce and Valerie Sturdy, and Ken and Marlene Sturdy, all Palmyra; grandchildren and spouses, Gayla and Dale Brown, Glenda and Jeff Beckman, Brian and Teresa Chaffin, Brenda Sturdy, Brad and Corrine Sturdy, Tanya Roeder, Amber Sturdy, Travis Sturdy, Jennifer Sturdy and Jamie Sturdy; great-grandchildren, Heidi and Judd Gold, Jennifer and Madison Brown, Amanda and Heather Beckman, Isabella and Elise and Camden Chaffin; McKensi and McKenna Webel, Jaidyn and Jace Sturdy and Mikayla Roeder; great-great-grandson, Kaden Gold; and sisters, Dorothy Jones, Lincoln, and Darlene Mast, Oregon.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Vivian; stepmother; brother; two sisters and a grandson.
The service was Saturday, Jan. 9, at Roper and Sons Chapel, Lincoln. The Rev. Sally Ruggie-Hodea officiated. Interment was at the Cheney Cemetery.
