Elmer O. Boettcher, 91, of Unadilla, died July 9, 2010 at Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. He was born Sept. 7, 1918 in Unadilla to George and Catherine (Folken) Boettcher. He married Norma Jean Wachter March 5, 1956 in Unadilla.

He is survived by wife Norma Jean Boettcher of Unadilla; son David Boettcher and wife Tamela of North Platte; daughters Linda Springer and husband Fred of Cherokee, Iowa, and Lori Vodicka and husband Ron of Unadilla; grandchildren Lisa Boettcher of North Platte, Matthew Markland of Unadilla, Steven Markland of Cherokee, Nicole Springer of Cherokee and Ashley Vodicka of Kearney; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded by brothers Alvin and Pete and sisters Viola, Sadie and Leila.

He was Unadilla postmaster for more than 30 years. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. He received the Bronze Star, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and participated in the 2009 Honor Flight. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Unadilla. He enjoyed mowing, gardening, the heat, his cat Cookie and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the DAV, Massie Richards Post #100, American Legion and Mid Otoe County V.F.W. #5547.

Funeral services are Thursday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Unadilla with Rev. Tony Dawson officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, 1-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 7-9 p.m.
Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse. Military rites will be by Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion and Mid Otoe County V.F.W. #5547.

 Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
