Alice M. Bornemeier, 99, of Lincoln, formerly of Elmwood, died Aug. 26, 2010. Alice Meredith was born July 18, 1911 in rural Alvo to Frank and Mabel  (Davis) Cook.

During her childhood, she was a member of one of the first 4-H Clubs in Nebraska and the Alvo Methodist Church. She graduated from Alvo High School in 1929. On June 5, 1929, she married George A. Bornemeier of Elmwood.

They lived on their farm in rural Elmwood all of their married life, 60 and one half years, and had a true partnership in the farm operation. For many  years they operated a Grade A Dairy.

She was a member of the neighborhood Extension Club and the UMW group of her church. Alice was well known for her pies and rolls and hospitality. She taught her granddaughter and her great granddaughters to follow her in baking cookies, pies and rolls.

During the Depression years a neighbor boy stayed with them during the winter because food was scarce in his own family. School teachers from Dist. 101 and Clear Creek also stayed with them, walking daily to their schools.

A nephew, Ron Lindgren, spent the first 18 summers of his life with George and Alice on the farm, instilling in him a love for the land that stayed with him all of his life.

After George’s death in January of 1990, Alice remained on the farm until September of 2003, continuing to enjoy the outdoors and her family and friends.

She lived at Gramercy Hill in Lincoln until the time of her death.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Merle Buell of Murdock; grandsons Ken and wife Julie Buell of Raymore Mo., and Mark and wife Sondra Buell of Liberty Mo.; granddaughter Carolyn and husband Brian Geschke of New Hampton, Iowa; great grandchildren Lee and wife Brianna Buell and their children, Isabella, Bryant, Nigel and Abigail Alice of Peculiar, Mo.; Misty and husband Jesse Weifenbach of Aurora, Colo.;  Clayton Geschke of Lincoln;  Meredith and husband Brian Martinich and their children, Christopher and Alyssa of Gardena Calif., Dustin Buell of Aurora, Mo., and Heidi Buell, a senior at Asbury University in Kentucky; and many more relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Alice was preceded by infant brother Frank, Jr., brother Wesley Cook, sister Joan Lindgren and nephew Ron Lindgren.

Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Monday at St Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elmwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the family or donor’s choice.
