Virginia E. Minderman, 86, of Syracuse, died at the Good Samaritan Society July 17, 2010. She was born April 6, 1924 at Moody, Texas, to Marshall and Iva (Goad) Hargett. She married Herman “Bud” Minderman Oct. 16, 1944 at an Army air base in Liberal, Kan.
She is survived by children Susan and Jim Gatchel of Forest City, Ark., Michael and Barb Minderman of Nehawka, Rev. Annette Minderman of Ohiowa, Timothy and Donna Minderman of Nebraska City and Ellen and John Moynihan of Camdenton, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister Alma Rose and CF Ellis, Troy, Texas; brother-in-law Howard Jacobson, Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband, two brothers and one sister.
She graduated from Moody High School in 1942 and attended college for two years.
She formerly lived in Waco, Texas, and Liberal, Kan. She was a devoted wife, seamstress and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Avoca, Evening Star Circle and choir, as well as North Branch Sewing Club and American Legion Auxiliary Post #100, for which she held the offices of president and district president.
Funeral service is Wednesday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church (North Branch), rural Avoca, with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating.
Pallbearers are grandsons David, Brian, Jason and Darrin Minderman, Michael Cole, Andrew and Stanley Gatchel, Russell and Jack Ireland. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters Lori Garvin, Lori Martin, Virginia Parrish. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday, noon to 9 p.m. at Fusselman Allen Harvey Funeral Home in Syracuse with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to her church or Syracuse Rescue Squad.
