Betty Jean (Waller) Starner passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City unexpectedly at the age of 90.
Betty was born to Icel and Lola (Curl) Waller on April 24, 1927, in Nebraska City.  
She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1945.  
She was united in marriage to Elwood Starner on April 24, 1945, and from this marriage they had five children.
Betty worked for the “The Little Diner” for her mother in law from 1959 to 1969.
Then she went to work for Morton House Kitchen until it closed in 1981.  She enjoyed embroidering, word-puzzles, drawing and her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her sister Marty and husband Larry Pickering of Lincoln, three sons Elwood “Bub” Starner and wife Carol of Eagle, Larry and wife Kathy Starner, Bill and wife Pam Starner all of Nebraska City, daughter Bobbi Starner of Nebraska City, and daughter-in-law Sharon Starner of Sidney, Iowa; 13 grandchildren:  Mike and wife Julie Starner, Mark and wife Lori Starner, Chad and wife Leah Starner, Courtney and husband Bryce Thies, Michelle Starner, Cory Starner, Cristine and husband Corey Bohlen, Jenny and husband Chad Bassinger, Kyle and wife Megan Starner, Amanda & husband Josh Loos, Cody and wife Staci Starner, Mikki and husband Jake Brooks, and Morgan Starner and friend Haley Knoll; 24 great-grandchildren:  Layne, Clayton, Josey, Bailey, Myranda, Brittany, Christian, Alexia, Eli, Molly, Cael, and Aftin Starner, Lauren and Zach Thies, Kaylee, Kolton and Tanner Loos, Garrett and Reagan Bassinger, Jace, Brynn and Mason Bohlen, Joleeanne and Lillian Brooks; three nieces and one nephew; many other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Icel and Lola Waller; husband Elwood Starner on Feb. 19, 1981, and son Michael Starner, Sr. on Jan. 17, 2009.
Funeral services were to be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Pastor Terry Weible officiating.  
Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
The family was to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday (9/27) evening at the mortuary.
