Emily L. Petersen, 91 of Lincoln formerly of Syracuse passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at home.
She was born to Louis and Edna (Hart) Holland on Dec. 15, 1925, in Palmyra.
She graduated from Palmyra High School and then attended National Business College.
Emily married Glenn E. Petersen on Jan. 6, 1948 in Palmyra.
She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, retiring as postmaster in Otoe.
She was active in the United Methodist Church in Palmyra, Springfield and Syracuse.
Emily also belonged to the Better Halves Extension Group and Parker Girls neighborhood group.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, playing piano and organ, cooking and collecting cookbooks.
Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children: Robert Petersen of Omaha, Barbara (Steve) Olson of Palmyra, Patti (Tom) Lintel of Lincoln, Russell (Jene) Petersen of Springfield; grandchildren: Mark (Stacey) Robinson, Matt (Gabrielle) Robinson, Jeff (Sarah) Lintel, Megan (Justin) Brunken, Russ (Kerry) Petersen, John (Margaret) Petersen, Cole Petersen & Kate Petersen; 12 great grandchildren, nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn, and sister, Lois Roos.
A memorial service was to be Thursday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Chapel in Syracuse.
Family burial service was to be at Park Hill cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Syracuse Public Library, Syracuse United Methodist Church Building Fund or family’s choice.
