The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating up to 14 reports of thefts from vehicles parked in Syracuse July 26-27.

All of the overnight thefts involved parked vehicles that were left unlocked.
Items stolen include at JVC car stereo, Alpine stereo, Alpine subwoofer, Magellan GPS, digital camera, sunglasses, jumper cables, Garmin GPS, blue plastic cooler and Ipod.

Karen Danner said she was surprised one morning to look out into the driveway to see the door of one vehicle in her driveway wide open and the trunk open on another car.

Items were missing from both vehicles, which are owned by her son and daughter.

Brenda Anderson is offering a reward for the return of stereo equipment taken from her gray work truck.
She said she has lived in Syracuse for 27 years and this is the first time she has had things stolen.

“They were stealing stupid stuff, I hear. Why would you break into someone’s car for a half can of beer. One person had some of their wedding invitations stolen, it is nonsense,” she said.

The sheriff’s office reports they are following up on leads and urged Syracuse residents to lock their cars.
