Otoe County commissioners trimmed their one-year road plan and say it reflects projects that might reasonably be undertaken.
The proposed one-year plan contains 36 projects, compared to nearly 100 offered last year.
Only 13 of the 2009 projects were completed, but commissioners expect a $2.5 million bond issue to propel the new one-year plan.
Over 60 percent of the proposed projects for 2010 are located in Steven Lade’s District 5 west of Syracuse and Otoe.
Several projects are located south of Palmyra and near the state’s Triple Creek Wildlife Management Area.
The county plans to reclassify and upgrade minimum maintenance roads in the area.
Road 2 between F and G will link to a collector road that goes north to Highway 2.
A dirt section of Road 10 will connect to an arterial road that runs east to Unadilla and one that runs west to the Douglas spur.
Road I near the wildlife management area will link a collector road to Lancaster County.
Grading and a drainage structure is also proposed on Road 10 east of the wildlife area, where a Nemaha Natural Resources District dam is under consideration.
Lade’s fifth district also has three of the five projects expected to cost in the range of $500,000.
The projects are a bridge near the wildlife management area on Road 4, a bridge on Road 12 between Palmyra and Unadilla, and a bridge over the Little Nemaha River west of Burr.
In Tim Nelsen’s District 4, a $500,000 project is proposed for a bridge on Road K east of Syracuse on what commissioners call the “Angle Road.”
In Carol Crook’s District 3, one project that includes two bridges is proposed. The bridges are located near Road O between 50 and 52.
There are no $500,000 projects in the one-year plan for Nicki Kreifels’ District 1.
However, a low water crossing is planned on Road 40 near the Wilson Creek Wildlife Refuge.
Also proposed is a 4.5 mile grading project and culvert replacement on Road E between Otoe and Old Wyoming.
Otoe County has placed 99 projects on its six-year plan.
