The American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Otoe County, is just over a month away. Here’s a very important phone number to remember, 402-873-7718.
The Relay will be held June 2 at the Otoe County Fairgrounds in Syracuse. The Survivor Meal will begin at 5 p.m. in the Fair Center and is being served by Little Ted’s here in Nebraska City. Stop in to Little Ted’s and thank them for participating in this segment of the Relay for Life when we celebrate those having survived cancer and support those still under treatment.
If you are a survivor or a caregiver and have not received your invitation to the Survivor Meal please call 402-873-7718 so we can get you registered. With this meal, you will receive the purple survivor shirt as a symbol of your strength and hope.
Sponsorships are just finishing up and we’re getting ready to order our participants t-shirts. To receive the participant t-shirt, you must raise $100. We have an orphan team this year for those wanting to be on a team but not wanting to organize a whole team. Go on-line to www.relayforlife to sign up or call 402-873-7718.
We are also collecting canned goods to use during the Luminaria Ceremony. Canned goods are used to anchor the luminaria bag. If you want to donate canned goods, call 402-873-7718 to have them picked up. It takes a lot of canned goods to fill the luminaria.
For those who would like to make a donation, call 402-873-7718.
Luminaria are for sale at $10 each. A person’s name will be printed on the luminaria to honor a survivor or memorialize a loss to cancer.
Plan to attend the celebration at the Otoe County Fairgrounds in Syracuse as the organization marks 21 years of celebrating, remembering and fighting back.
The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and includes fun and  games for kids and adults, silent and live auctions, remembering loved ones and celebrating survivors. Set up begins at 10 a.m. at the Syracuse Fairgrounds and volunteers are welcomed.
