Sponsors, volunteers make for great celebration
The 2017 GermanFest Celebration was made possible through the sponsorships of many area businesses and an estimated 500 volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce, community, and various organizations that sponsored individual GermanFest events.
From the early morning St. Paulinus Pancake Feed to the after midnight streetdance with band Switchbak, GermanFest had something for everyone.
The KinderParade featured the theme of “Happy Birthday” in recognition of Nebraska’s 150th birthday celebration. The parade, Kinderfun games, Little Tuggers Tractor Pull, Main Street Whackiness, and Inflatables kept kids busy and moving for most of the day.
The Helmat Tanzer Dancers were very good entertainment for those who wanted to relax and take it in while enjoying the air conditioning. Others couldn’t wait to watch the Viener Races out on Main Street which once again drew in a very large crowd.
Street vendors offered a wide variety of products for people to browse as they meandered the streets and moved from activity to activity.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Carolyn Gigstad said, “On behalf of the Syracuse Area Chamber of Commerce, I would like to shout out a huge, huge thank you to everyone that contributed to GermanFest 2017… And how can we thank everyone without singling Rhae Werner out, the GermanFest Chair, for the past several years?
This was her last one and if you see her tell her THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! She has done an unbelievably great job!!! So please thank her when you see her.” A committee will be formed soon to find co-chairs and sponsors for planning GermanFest 2018.
