Rick Yoder, OPPD director, presented a letter of payment to Otoe County Treasurer Nicki Baker on Friday, March 30. OPPD paid the county $4,264 in payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) funds for 2016. In-lieu-of-tax payment amounts are based on 5 percent of OPPD’s gross revenues from the previous year’s retail electricity sales in incorporated cities and towns, and they take the place of property taxes. County treasurers distribute the funds to various government agencies to fund needed services and improvements.  OPPD distributed nearly $33.1 million in 2016 payments to 11 southeastern Nebraska counties on March 30.
