Stanley Theodore Pfeifer, son of John and Margaret (Kitzinger) Pfeifer, was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Oakes, North Dakota. His family moved to Iowa in 1935 and he graduated from Carroll High School in 1936.
On Nov. 13, 1940, Stanley was united in marriage to Ellen Tigges at St. Mary’s Church in Willey. They made their home in Battle Creek, Michigan, before Stanley was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 from Carroll County. When he returned home in 1945 they farmed in Ayrshire for five years before moving to a farm near Melrose. In 1965 the family moved to Knoxville and in 1969 they moved to Perry where he eventually retired as a United States meat inspector at the Oscar Mayer plant. In 1999, following his wife’s passing, he moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, area.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington, Texas.
On Nov. 24, 2016, Stanley died peacefully at his home in Arlington, Texas, at the age of 99.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Pfeifer; wife Ellen Pfeifer; son Lyle Pfeifer; granddaughter Janette Tucker O’Brien; siblings Viola (Andrew) Klein, Hildegarde (Otto) Berg, Loretta (Francis John) Harambasic, Irene (Richard) Carraher, Anastasia (Peter) Reis, Raymond (Ethel) Pfeifer, Celestine "Slick" (Lucille) Pfeifer, Marcella (Henry) Maystadt, Ralph (Lucille) Pfeifer and Orville (Rene) Pfeifer.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Charlene (Gary) Rupiper of Templeton, Jane (John) Tucker of Lakeland, Florida, Linda Stolmeier of Arlington, Texas, and Dennis (Debra) Pfeifer of Arlington, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and prayers will be Friday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ohde Twit Funeral Home in Carroll, with Rev. Steven Brodersen presiding. Visitation resumed Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Rev. Steven Brodersen is celebrant, and Rev. Timothy Johnson is concelebrant. Sarah Raley and Zoe Pfeifer are lectors. Mary Chase is eucharistic minister. Mass servers are Timothy Chase and Michael Chase. Gift bearers are Gina Rupiper and Carrie Stolmeier. Casket bearers are Steve Pfeifer, Nicki Stolmeier, Matthew Tucker, Lukas Greene, Anyssa Pfeifer, and Dennis Pfeifer.
Interment with military honors provided by American Legion Maurice Dunn Post 7, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2642, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carroll.
