The Republican Liberty Caucus of Nebraska announced and update today of its plans to host the first Republican Senate debate for the 2012 election cycle. The debate, which will be held at the Ramada Convention Center in Kearney, on Saturday, February 11, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.., will be open to the public. James Parsons, an Otoe County sheriff's deputy, is challenging Otoe County Board Chairman Tim Nelsen for the Republican nomination to the board of commissioners.
Parsons, who registered Republican and graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1996, is seeking election to the county board's fourth district. The district includes most of Syracuse, Dunbar, Lorton, Talmage and North Branch precinct west of Otoe.
After high school, Parsons served eight years in the U.S. Army. He earned a degree in criminal justice from Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte.
He was a deputy for the Nemaha County Sheriff's Office for seven years and joined the Otoe County Sheriff's Office in 2007.
