Co-chairs and Syracuse Area Chamber of Commerce representatives said that favorable weather, attendance and participation contributed to the success of the silver anniversary Germanfest.
“I think this was one of the best Germanfests in a long time. I was pleased with the crowds and participation. It was just a great day. The weather was wonderful. We had a great weekend and a great festival. I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out,” said Amy Ferris.
“Fantastic. Super,” was the reaction of Rhae Werner.
“I think it was a successful event. There was a good time had by all. Everyone worked hard to make it come together. A big thank you to the weather,” said Bobbi Nannen, Syracuse Area Chamber of Commerce president.
“Hopefully it was financially successful,” said Judy Hespen, Chamber member and parade co-grand marshal.
Temperatures were in the 70s and 80s.
A meeting to wrap up the silver anniversary Germanfest is forthcoming.
A large turnout gathered Friday night, July 10, in The Green Room at 5th Street Centre to began the silver anniversary Syracuse Germanfest.
The Little Miss Germanfest pageant was followed by an Abendessen, opening event, meal of traditional German food. Diane Teten catered the meal.
Werner said that she was pleased with the larger than expected attendance at the opening event.
“We’ve had a grand time. Since it was the 25th anniversary, we wanted to make it special. We wanted to do a little bit more. We’re back in the room where the first Germanfest was,” she said. The Green Room was the former Syracuse Vets’ Club and Syracuse Steakhouse.
The attendance included many past royalty, burgermeisters and Little Miss Germanfests.
“We’ve had a number of changes over the years but we just keep it going. There are fewer and fewer ethnic festivals. We’re quite proud to be going 25 years,” Werner said.
Keith and Marie Goering, 2008 king and queen, called their reign “a wonderful year.”
