The Fifth-Annual Growing Great Kids Adventure Race is set for Saturday at Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard, located at 5995 G. Rd.

The race, which is sponsored by CHI Health St. Mary’s and the Southeast District Health Department, is a community challenge that runs through Camp Catron and is open to experienced adventurers, as well as people looking to enjoy the outdoors. Both children and adults are encouraged to participate.

The 3-mile adventure race starts at 8:30 a.m. and includes some challenging terrain ranging from cross country, trail, creek, hill and mud-pit running. Awards will be given out to the 3-mile course overall male and female winners.

The 1-mile walk and-or run event starts at 9:45 a.m. and includes a hayrack ride, mid pit and creek running. Hayrack rides to the 1-mile race will begin at 9:15 a.m. All children 14 and under participating in the 1-mile event will receive a participation award.

The race will be held regardless of the weather conditions and registration is final. Refunds will not be granted. Dogs and strollers are not allowed on the course.

Parking will be available at Kimmel Orchard, however, it’s suggested that people ease the congestion by carpooling.

To register online, visit http://bit.ly/2bff6xE. Participants can register the day of the race, but a T-shirt isn’t guaranteed.

Registration packets can be picked up Friday at the Ambassador Wellness Center, located at 1240 N. 19th St., from noon to 7 p.m. Packets will also be available before the race on Saturday at 7:45 a.m. at the shelter located behind the Kimmel Education and Research Center.

Proceeds from the race will benefit Growing Great Kids in Southeast Nebraska, a home visitation program for expecting and new parents that is administered by CHI Health St. Mary’s and the Southeast District Health Department.
